Anyone else use Gas additive like Lucas to keep injectors clean.

My mechanic swears by it improving mpg and performance, even on his wife's Cadi. Would it be good to add something like Lucas every few fill ups or so?

NOTHING you pour into your tank will improve mileage or performance, at all. You need to find a new mechanic.

If you'd like to keep the fuel system at its cleanest, use a top tier fuel (Google it), and/or pour a 20 OZ. bottle of Chevron Techron into the tank every 3K-5K miles.

Forget the Seafoam (Does your mechanic sell Seafoam ??? If he does, ask him what spiff he gets per sale.)

Read your owner's manual for GM's recommendations on snake oils and additives.

As posted, do some homework on Google - first, enter chevron techron fuel system cleaner and do some studying. Then enter top tier gasoline and do some more study.

NEVER fall for the bad advice that "If a little is good, more must be better". I'm surprised that you haven't run across a bunch of fuel additive threads in your time reading through all Eldorado and Northstar forums in this site.

Did you ever go way up ^^^ to the top black bar and study the Cadillac Techical Archive, then go to Engines, Northstar Performance and read the sticky threads at the top of the page ???? Have you looked at the sticky threads just above this one ????

Oh what the hell, I'll add my voice to the chorus. They are all snake oil. Save your money and put it towards a bottle of scotch.

I've used Amsoil Pi in my 96 deville and I got about an mpg and half increase. I've also used it on my 02 Seville and it didn't make a difference.

    ----------

I should also add the Deville was a 1 owner car, owned by an older gentlemen that babied the car. The Seville is a multi owner car and and appears to have never been babied. So the build of carbon may have made a difference too.

Re: Anyone else use Gas additive like Lucas to keep injectors clean.

While Lucas has a pretty good reputation for additives, I don't think they'll add to mpg or performance either but Techron (I use Techron in my 92 Eldo) is also an additive and it works as advertised. So to blanket label additives as scams isn't reasonable. It should be on a case by case basis with proof or the lack of proof thereof. I don't think it's fair to label someone a scammer for believing a Lucas additive works. One of my best friends is a Toyota master technician and believes a B&G additive they use helps reduce carbon buildup. His dealership started adding a can to every car with a major tuneup and didn't add it into the price. Anything he says I can take to the bank.

The only kind of fuel injector cleaner that really works is the professional kind that some shops use. Watch the stuff you put in the tank, it's been said using it too regularly can be damaging to the fuel pump and injectors.

It should be on a case by case basis
with proof or the lack of proof thereof.

    ---------------------------
so - on one hand you ask for PROOF something works -
yet on the other hand you follow your friend -
who BELIEVES some product MAY HELP -

I don't think your friend's statement could be more vague -
    and offers NO proof -

    which is it -

    PROOF?
or because your friend BELIEVES it MIGHT HELP -

you can't have it both ways -

OR do you consider your friend's statement -
that he THINKS some product MIGHT HELP - PROOF?

    -------------------------
here is another way to think about it -

today's gas ALL contain detergents to keep the fuel systems clean -

IF the fuel system IS already clean -
what good does a fuel system cleaner do? -
even if said fuel system cleaner actually DID/COULD clean the fuel system?

it may NOT be so much the case that a certain product does or doesn't work -
but the CONDITION for using the product just doesn't exist -

I trust what he says a lot more than I trust whatever you say. If he believes it works than he must be basing that on what he's seen. You argument doesn't make any sense. It's also the opinion of the shop manager, another master tech, and the other mechanics.

Personally I don't think they help at all unless you have a problem with a car. That's not typical with today's oils and fuel.
I can vouch for Seafoam under certain conditions. I used it on my mother's Grand Marquee because it pinged all the time, probably due to her 'little old lady' driving. it Immediately cleared it up and never returned.

You argument doesn't make any sense
    what argument?
what I said was that YOU wanted PROOF - and I agreed -
then your PROOF was downgraded to the WORD of some friend -
who "BELIEVES some product HELPS reduce carbon" -

that - my friend - falls FAR short of PROOF -

it is in fact - NOTHING more than OPINION -

It's also the opinion of the shop manager,
another master tech, and the other mechanics.

once again - NOTHING but OPINION -

    WHERE IS THE PROOF? -

it would be really simple -

    remove the spark plugs -

    insert a bore scope
and observe the amount of carbon build-up -
    in each cylinder -

    re-install the spark plugs -

dump in your can of MagicScrubbingBubbles -

run the engine for X period of time -

reinspect the cylinders - and note the difference -

    THAT WOULD BE PROOF -

and THEN you could form your OPINION based on FACT -
whether the MagicScrubbingBubbles did anything at all -

    ------------
the OTHER part of my "ARGUMENT" is -

what if there was no carbon build-up in the first place -

what good would adding MagicScrubbingBubbles do -
    NOTHING -

but would that mean MagicScrubbingBubbles doesn't work?
    not necessarily -

it simply means MagicScrubbingBubbles didn't do any good -
in this particular motor - BECAUSE THE CONDITION DIDN'T EXIST -

Re: Anyone else use Gas additive like Lucas to keep injectors clean.

You don't justify an opinion, and you don't need proof of anything to have an opinion. That's why it's an opinion. No one is touting the mysterious tech's opinion as proven fact. You seem to be more concerned about the proof than anyone else - go pull your own plugs and do your own fact finding. "It's really simple" - no need for the drama queen to come out and drown the internet in your tears - it's not helping you here, bro. If you are still alive after you're done, let us know how it goes.
