Need some clarification - Sound system swap - 1997 Eldorado

I've read through 20+ threads and I've learned that just throwing in a new head unit isn't possible. So i need some clarification on few things:

1: What adapter/interface would I need to just put in my Pioneer double din dvd screen into my 97 eldorado?

2: When people talk about replacing the bose speakers, "rewiring" means running all new wires or just cutting and changing some wires around on the factory harness? I.e. Dark blue/light blue into HU, "orange and blue" from back harness (out of the wires that go into the speaker amps) cut and wired to replacement speakers?

    3. When i took out my stock radio...my trunk and fuel door release buttons stopped working. I'm assuming this is just a blown fuse? Anybody else had this happen?

If I've missed a thread that answers any of these, please just direct me to it. If none, a tour would be greatly appreciated as I currently have a brand new DVD player sitting in it's box, and an empty space in my dash. Thanks

Metra GMOS-06. Plus an additional module if you want to retain steering wheel controls, if the new HU supports it.

If you're just changing the HU, you don't have to change the speakers. The Bose speakers are very low impedance, and the Bose amp is designed to work with them. Unless you can find after market speakers with the same impedance, you'll have to replace the amp, and wire the system from scratch.

It's probably a stupid question, but where would I find the valet switch?

Valet switch was on, is it supposed to be? What's it actually do?

It disables the trunk and fuel door releases, both in the car and in the fob, as well as HomeLink. The idea is to turn it on, lock the glove box, and give the valet only the valet key (which does not open the glove box or trunk. That way, the valet will only be able to unlock the doors and start the engine, not get into your trunk, not gain access to your garage with the HomeLink buttons, and not refuel if he goes for a joy ride.

Depending on year and model, the valet switch disables the fuel fill door and trunk switches and key fob buttons, and some will disable the HomeLink transmitter.

The valet key is mechanically different from the other two, so it will not fit the glove box or trunk lock cylinders. It is electr(onically) the same.

Now that I think of it, I'm not sure if the two key cars have a valet key for the locks. I guess you'd just give the valet the ignition key and fob.

Well I checked it and it was on, but if it makes a difference, there's not even lighting behind those two buttons at night. That's why i think it's a fuse somewhere. It only happened when i took the control panel out to remove the radio cus when i put it back in, exactly the same, they didn't work. Info, data reset and trip reset work fine.

Unlikely they both went out at the same time, and that wouldn't affect their operation.

Yea, Metra GMOS-6 is the adaptor you'll need, i just finished finalizing the install of a Pioneer AVH-4400BH double din in my 1997 Eldorado. Use the Metra95-2005B Dashk kit. My trunk and fuel door buttons no longer work either and valet is off, no blown fuses either.

I'm hoping once my GMOS-6 gets here, and I get the HU put in, I can make those buttons work. I don't mind the trunk button so much, but the fuel door button is the most convenient way to open the door! I just can't believe they stopped working by doing nothing but unplugging two harnesses.

@vincentm...that's the same dashkit i'm gonna use. You got a picture?

That's nice, I can't wait till mine's done. I was hoping somebody would say they had the same problem as me with their buttons not working and then saying they had fixed it, lol.
