Does your 76-78 Eldo have a rear parking brake spring (the one that wraps around the rear caliper) on both Rear calipers or just on the Drivers side like mine?Am I missing the passenger side spring? Thanks.

Yes you are! The spring forces the piston in the caliper to retract when the parking brake releases. Might be the same spring used on 78/79 Sevilles or 80 thru 85 Eldo's. This spring doesn't wrap around the caliper. It is between the caliper lever and caliper body and the parking brake cable passes thru it. It probably flew off as the PO was trying to reconnect the parking brake cables to the levers! Ideally 2 people should do this.

Yours must be a little different than mine. The spring I have hooks onto the parking brake lever (on the caliper) and attaches onto the caliper via a small hole in the caliper.brake.jpgbrake2.jpg

Yes, its different on the later Eldo's but performs the same function. Yes you need 2 springs.

This leads me to believe that when the other caliper was put on,that even though it "fits" that it is not the correct one for my car.I say that for two reasons, first there is no hole on the caliper too mount the spring to & second there is no physical "stop" in the actual casting of the caliper. So even if you put a spring on it the parking brake arm would'nt hit anything. The other caliper (drivers side) has a physical stop in its casting that prevents parking brake arm from traveling any farther.
