Question Need Advice: purchasing 98 Eldo ETC, independent inspection and Ext warranty terms...

Remove this ad
Good afternoon,

The car has a clean VIN history (2 owners), looks clean (in and out).

I would like to get it inspected prior to purchasing it... I am wondering if a mechanic is OK? (listed on AAA), or an online service that specializes in inspections (carchex.com -- does anyone have any input on them?).

My reasoning, is that a Cadillac dealer or independent mechanic, may want to work on it to get your business so they may list many things that are sort of wrong, with the intention of getting your business (i.e, conflict of interest). Has anyone here used Carchex?

Also I am wanting to purchase an extended warranty--can anyone with mechanical / ownership experience tell me if this sounds reasonable, terms described below?

I am looking at a very competitively priced 48 month or 50,000 mile coverage, described below (name of company has been XXXXX).

Just my 2¢

I have a problem with some lines in your extended warranty.

Specific lines
5,6,8,10,11
Also the last sentence of DEFINITION:

Unless you have a documented history, you have no leg to stand on when warranty repair is claimed. It is a catch 22 for you.

The warranty escape is in these lines UNLESS you can prove different.

I would not hesitate to purchase a warranty on a used NorthStar if I did not know the full history of the car. It seems to me that is just what your warranty is saying too.

Yes, I had a small problem with line 13 as well but since there were other serious trap doors, that one was only harmful. LOL

That warranty serves the provider not the holder. Hands down, it is plain no good!

I would run the codes myself and if there are any then get what they mean and make sure if the dealer inspects it that what you found and what they tell you are the same.
