Proud new owner of a 2001 SLS

Great car, never owned a cadillac before but have had a few GM vehicles. A couple of issues though

Slight overheating issue, going to try the relief tube check tomorrow when its cooled down.

I am not getting hardly any sound from the radio. I think some of the antenna connections have been disconnected, definetly going to check on that.

Feels great to join the club!

Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

    Edit: Pictures and description added.

This is what the temperature normally goes to when the A/C is on:

This is where the temperature is, normal driving, A/C is OFF:

Re: Proud new owner of a 2001 SLS

    Slight overheating issue,
what EXACTLY does that mean -
overheating - or running a little warm -
    how warm -

going to try the relief tube check tomorrow when its cooled down.
    you mean the PURGE LINE?

the PURGE LINE is the only way of expelling air from the Northstar cooling system -

it is a 3/8 diameter hose that goes from a hollow bolt in the thermostat/waterpump housing area of the engine - and plugs onto a nipple on the side of the SERGE TANK -

with the engine running - there should be a gentle - constant flow of coolant - from the engine - to the serge tank -

if there is no flow - the most likely cause is a blockage in the hollow bolt -

follow the hose towards the engine - with the engine OFF - remove the hose - use a straightened metal coat hanger - or something similar - and poke it into the hollow bolt -

the coat hanger should go in about 2 1/2 inches -

once the hollow bolt is cleared - you can briefly start the engine to verify coolant flow - be sure to use some sort of container to catch the coolant so you don't make a mess -

check the hose and serge tank for blockage -

    -----------------------------
Also - just for kicks -
check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes -

if you don't know how - go here and read the ENTIRE post -

if you have any codes - post them here -

    Welcome
It is a task to roll back the hands of time.
    I enjoy most of it
Hope you got a clean original one and not one that had been tormented.
I try to find the ones that have only been mildly neglected

Thanks for the heads up on the purge line/serge tank technical term, will save some headache in the future lol. As for the test with the coat hanger, never seen that before anywhere and thankyou for the info. Will definitely try that. The overheating issue ive been seeing is, while im going down the road at around 45-55, the needle will stay steady in the middle. When I turn on the air conditioner, the needle rises to around the last white tick and before the first red tick and will hold there for a few minutes. Its never gotten up to the first red tick. When I turn the air conditioner off it goes back down to the middle tick.

Its Pearl White, the setting sun and clouds make it look pink haha

With the car in park, check to make sure that the cooling fans turn on when you turn the AC on.

Will do and get back here, should both turn on with the A/C on, even if the car is below 250* ?

Both fans go to low speed operation, at any temperature, when any A/C function is set.

With the A/C off, they go to low speed at 224, high speed at 236.

Read all about cooling system, fan and temperature gauge operation in the sticky posts on the Engines: Northstar Performance threads.

Look at parts and annotated temp gauges in my albums.

U turn on a/c while driving at 40+ mph and temp gauge goes up for a few minutes. What happens after a few minutes? Does the temp gauge stay there or drop, with a/c still on? U make it sound like temp gauge does not drop with a/c on.

Will look at that also. I know I could do a quick google search, but I've seen some of your other posts and you seem well educated on the northstar, and I can appreciate that. Do you know what psi it should have for low and high pressure?

If you have gauge set I would assume you know a little about a/c operation. What pressures would you expect based on air temp?

with ambient temps in the mid 80's -

    high idle - around 1500
low should be around 30 -
high should be around 200 -
air from center duct should be 42 or less -
