    Keyless Entry Remote

I have 96 Eldorado Etc and I know it has the factory alarm because it went off a few times, the security light blinks on the dash too. I didn't get a remote with the car when I bought it, if I buy one off of ebay and take it to a dealer to program, should the keyless entry/alarm system still work? I don't know how long it's been since a the alarm was activated with a keyless remote or if it matters.

    --------------------------
IF the RKE system in the car is still working with no problems -

and IF you get the correct fob -

    I can't imagine why it wouldn't work -

    ------------
now - regarding the correct fob - and sellers on ebay -

there are a lot of GM fobs that LOOK the same -
but operate on different frequencies -

with a little research - the fob's that should work with your car are -
    #1 - 16259819 -
    #2 - 16259829 -

you can have 2 fobs matched to your car -
they DO NOT have to be one of each of these numbers -

you could use 2 of the same number -
which ever fob is matched to the car first becomes #1 -
the second one matched becomes #2 -

OH - one more thing -
if you find a great deal on one -
but the case is messed up - or the keypad is worn off -
and you want one that looks brand new -

you can get a brand new case and keypad for about $8 on ebay -

    Re: Keyless Entry Remote

Thanks Bass, hopefully the dealer won't over charge to program it. The remotes in new condition on Ebay cost around $40, I might go with a cheaper worn looking one.

Do like bass said about getting the correct remotes.

My dad got 2 replacement remotes off of eBay a while a go for his 96 Eldo & they came with the programming instructions..didn't need the dealer.

You may be able to find the instructions on google

    Re: Keyless Entry Remote

this is SUPPOSED to work -

    1. Insert key into ignition and turn to the ON position (as far as it goes without cranking the engine.

    2. Press OFF and WARM (temperature up) on the Climate Control Panel simultaneously. The IPC Display will
light all telltales, go blank, then enter “Diagnostic Mode.”
Note: On Analog IPC’s that use a dial for the temperature control, press the main OFF and PASSENGER COOLER
(far right button toggle UP) buttons until “RFA?” is displayed, then press FAN UP.

    3. Press FAN DOWN to scroll through the diagnostic menu until “RFA?” is displayed, then press FAN UP.

    4. Press FAN DOWN until “RFA OVERRIDE” is displayed, then press FAN UP.

    5. “NO OVRD RF S00” is displayed, press FAN UP.

    6. “PGM Fob 1 S01” is displayed; press WARM button and a “99” will be displayed in the upper left corner of the
IPC Display just below the odometer. The system is now ready to program the #1

    7. Press and hold the TRUNK button on the remote, and within one second of pressing it, press and hold the
LOCK button. Continue to hold both buttons until the locks cycle or until the display changes from “99” to “0.” If the
remote has not programmed within 30 seconds of entering “99” override display, the display will return to “0” and you
must go back to step 6.

    8. To program remote #2, press FAN UP button until “RF PROGRAM FOB #2” is displayed. Press WARM button.

    9. Follow step 7 to program remote #2.

    10. Press RECIRC or RESET to exit programming.

    Re: Keyless Entry Remote

Just an update, I got the remote #1 off of Ebay for $34.00 and programmed it myself, no dealer needed!! I was just wondering if the horn is supposed to sound when you lock and unlock the doors? The horn also didn't blow when I reached in the car and manually unlocked the door and opened it.

    Re: Keyless Entry Remote

You don't need the remote to use the alarm, it also activates when you use the power lock button on the door.

On my 94 Deville it doesn't give you any indication that it's been locked or unlocked with the remote. Later years you can set it if you want the horn to honk or not but I don't know if 96 is one of those years or if it started after that.

The alarm should have gone off when you opened the door that way, as long as you locked it with the power lock button or remote first.

Ok there might be a different problem then because the interior lights don't come on when you open the doors. Twilight sentinel doesn't work either.

There is a vehicle personalization section in the owner's manual.

I see you started a new thread on the interior lights problem ..........
