New Eldorado owner and have a few questions.

Hi everyone, I have recently bought my first car and could not resist a Cadillac. My neighbor was selling his '01 Eldorado for $2500, so I definitely could not resist. I have a few minor issues, part of the reason it was so cheap, but it runs great. If you can help me solve these issues I would really appreciate it.

    Issues:
Small leak above driver side window - not serious but I am sure it's not good to have a leak.
Car has been in an accident before and I am looking to find the small metal plate that goes beneath headlight and the plastic cover on top of headlight (inside hood) - everything else has been replaced. Looking for a place I can purchase these.
Gas gauge stops working at half tank - I use the electronic counter and reset it at the moment.
Previous owner was a smoker and I got most smoke smell out, just a hint left. Ideas?

After these 3/4 fixes, my car will look great!

I really love my new car and would like to fix everything that I can.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

    look at www.cadillacking.com

For the smoke, pick yourself up some Lexol PH cleaner and Lexol leather conditioner ($7 ea), start with a bucket of water and a damp microfiber cloth, wipe all the leather down, then with a separate cloth apply the PH cleaner, then use a dry cloth to remove excess PH cleaner, finally apply the conditioner with yet another cloth. Shampoo the carpet and head liner and you should be good to go.

Gas gauge issue is a bad sender on the fuel pump in the tank:

The black "dial" looking thing. Available separately.

I will just keep using the electronic gallons used then. I am student and can't afford anything expensive. Thank you Aztec though!

Then you bought the wrong damn car. The parts and labor reflect the original 40k sticker price,

CVRSS shocks and struts = avg $600 per wheel (if you'rs is an ETC)

    Possible HG = $3000

    Case halves leaking = $3000

Fuel pump = pump is $250-300 , labor is around $300

IF it has the Bose think twice before going after market

I'll let the others chime in, tisk tisk, you bought a very spendy car..

I got an ESC, do you think I should just try and sell it before anything serious goes wrong?

If i'm correct the ESC doesn't have the CVRSS, i could be wrong but on that note for the suspension you'll be ok. What depth of an inspection did you do before purchasing?

^^^ go to the black bar up top and pour through the technical archives and tips section..lots of info to be had, and get yourself a craftsman 300pc set, if you're planning on keeping this car and want to save yourself a buck or two on repairs..

I had my grandpa (retired GM employee) look at it. Drove it around. Stuff like that. I have put over 1k miles on it already, oil does not leak and everything works fine.

Ozium will get rid of just about any smell... Small can but powerful.
Does your ride have a sunroof? Could be a blocked drain if so.

    These cars CAN be expensive.

Take it from somebody who has been there

Keep up with your preventative maintenance.

    Try not to wreck it

Don't be afraid to do something on your own (if you feel up to it)

and take care of her. She will return the favor.

I'd keep the car,but then again I've had my 76 Eldo for 22 years. If you need a pump assembly or just pricing parts.Another source is both Amazon & Rockauto.com (excellent website).I've gotten parts from both for my Eldo & my Wife's Mercedes E430.
