Hi guys, Dumb question but thought it is best to ask the experts, I think after my last oil change, the guy put a little too much oil on my car, it is about 3 or 4 millimeters above max on the hash mark on the dipstick, will this harm the engine? should I have it drained a bit? thanks in advanced to any opinion.
Thank you basscatt, the car had a small oil leak before the oil change, now when I park it on down hill surfaces there are four oil drippings on the ground, but not on level surfaces, do you think that might be because of excessive oil?

Re: Oil Level
Let it get to here -
<== ADD XXXXXXXXXX = OPERATING RANGE ====================00============================ ====O
and keep it there. Check every 2 weeks - forget the DIC message - do it correctly. Don't simply dump in "a quart or two". Pour in 8 ounces or so, let it settle and check the level. Once you become familiar with doing routine underhood checks, a simple oil level check will become second nature.
Your engine takes exactly 7.5 quarts of oil with filter - that amount will fill it to the level shown on my dipstick graphic ^^^.
Did you ever read the article on oil consumption up ^^^ in the Cadillac Technical Archive - way up in the top black bar ???
......... and in your original post on the oil change, 3 or 4 mm high is close to 3/8" to 1/4" overfilled. Too much.
