    the problem is almost never the ICM -
    compared to the coil -

    but - without a TECHII tool - this is how diagnostics works -
    it is pure grunt-work -

    swap the coils -

    if the problem follows the coil -
    THEN swap the ICM's -
    just to be sure the problem is NOT the ICM's -

    It has been coming and going with this problem, when I remove, clean , and replace the cassette I sometimes have a real hard idle and misfire. I can smell the eggs. I went and got a used cassette/ICM. At $60, it was worth it to get both parts. I just put it in and it is setting of P0300 current, I can feel the hard misfire.

    I doubt I put another bad cassette/ICM combo. I'm at 130K, I changed my plugs at 98K. At that time, the boots were fine so I left them. Last week, before I put in the replacement cassette; I took out all the plugs and boots. I cleaned the springs in the boots with electrical cleaner. One plug had a lot of oil on it. I hate throwing money at it and guessing. Should I just replace 4 plugs though?

    If the plugs (look at the white insulator carefully) are carbon tracked - black lines down the sides - then they and the boots are useless and need to be replaced. New GM boots come with dielectric ignition grease in the tips, but check - and use a tad in the tip of each boot. In tubes at any parts store. Look carefully at the coil cassette secondary tower - the spark plug connector that slips into the boot tops - if the cassette material around that plug connector tip is cracked, the cassette is useless.

    Replace all 8 boots - and a bit of oil on the outside of a plug is fairly normal - from the cam cover plug well O-ring seal weeps.

    I assume the engine is the 2002, and the plugs are AC Delco #41-987 Platinum.

    EDIT: Are you still getting the P 1360 Coil group 2 control circuit code ? That's ICM, wiring, or PCM territory and needs a diagnostic tree test sequence out of the GM service manual.

    So I took a look at the replacement cassette, cracks around all 4 are cracked. My original one did not have that problem. I also swapped out the ICM in mine with the one that was in with the bad replacement cassette (it wasn't screwed in, I bet someone replaced it thinking it would fix the broken cassette). Anyways, I picked up some new boots and changed out the 4 front plugs while I had it open.

    One of those things fixed it. On the plus side, the computer's real time MPG is much, much higher than it has been lately.
