Cadillac Seville / Cadillac Eldorado Forum Discussion, Trunk pull-down will not work in Past Cadillac Vehicle Discussion; Another question for my Evil Caddy (2002 red #666):
The trunk pull-down will not work. DH replaced the unit, but ...
WOW #666! Cool.
One way to fix a problem pull down is to juice the correct wires to move it up/down or take it apart and turn it the a good position where the trunk closes properly, leave it unplugged and it will never bother you again.
Automobile(s): 2006 XJ, 2000 Eldorado ESC--total loss :(
Re: Trunk pull-down will not work
Check the lid switch that is on the latch portion (on the deck lid, not the trunk body) as well as the 2 switches on the pulldown itself. The deck lid switch breaks easily and will cause many issues with the pulldown.
That may be an option! Yes, she's not really evil, she was just built that way I found out from another member that she was also a drug bust car, impounded and put up for sale on ebay! He missed it by that much! We bought it from the ebay winner, 40,000 miles later.
Thanks! Husband replaced that switch a few days ago to no avail. The Caddy dealer said the actuator needed to be replaced, $329 parts, but he had just replaced the motor part and told them so, but they didn't budge. Now he is going to get the switch in the trunk body and replace that. Hopefully that will work. I should tell him to try cleaning it first.
Oh, you said two switches on the pulldown...hmmm. I'll tell him that part, too.
Just wanted to chime in here. 85 Eldo, dead pull down. I took the plastic cover over the pull down motor off, separated the wiring harness and removed the fuse (there's a 20 amp fuse inside the cover—had no idea), sprayed some contact cleaner into both and cleaned them with a Q-tip, replaced the fuse even though it looked fine. Boom, trunk pull-down works again.
