Not to sure, minor over-heat problem 03 STS

My 03 STS in the summer time seems to pass the 12 o'clock water-temp mark on warm/hot days, especially in stop and go traffic. Last summer I flushed the raditor and removed and checked/washed the surge tank, and cap. Once flush was done(2X) add Dex-cool. What should i check next, the previous owner had a shop replace his water pump at around 60k, car now has 72k. I would love to resolve this before it gets hot, and summer rolls around.

How much is it passing it? A needle's width or less? If so, perfectly normal.

Needle and a half, but seems to move(hot) when stopped in traffic, and as i press the gas to start moving, it seems to level back to near the 12 mark. Is it that okay?
Want to keep the car running well, since i am driving it a lot more these days.

Hot day, in traffic, with the A/C on? Normal.

Did you check the purge line when you changed the coolant?

This is within perfect running conditions. As the ambient temperature rises in the summer, you will see this often. Check out the sticky "engine cooling fans operation explained" thread on the Northstar engine forum.

Thank you for the quick reply, how could I tell if the water pump is running at its optiaml, not sure if the shop/previous owner used a GM wp.

The engine and cooling system is operating normally. Drive the car.
If the temperature gauge DID NOT move in heavy traffic something would be wrong.
As advised, read the temperature gauge and cooling system operation stickies in Engines, Northstar Performance.

I moved your other posts from the hijacked thread. Go back and read this entire thread again.

If the belt tensioner is not slipping and the belt (pump) is spinning, it is working as designed.

Belt is spinning, not really sure how I should check that tensioner?
