    head holes enlarge

    Hi

    Could be possible to enlarge tha head holes (holes where the engine block bolts pass by to clamp the heads... they are 20). If so how much, I'm planning to enlarge the holes to 5/8"

    Repairing the pulled threads does require enlarging the holes.... in the block. They are then tapped to accept inserts or studs.

    There is at least one person enlarging the holes in the head, and using larger bolts as a cheaper alternative, but I wouldn't do it, or recommend it.

    If I was going to do that much work to remove the engine and take the heads off, I would want to do it right with thread inserts.

    I would assume to use larger head bolts.

    That's what inserts or studs do without the extra drilling. Seems like a lot of extra work for nothing.

    ........ and you get into the business of calculating proper torque settings for the larger diameter (and metallurgy) of the new bolts ............
