Cadillac Seville / Cadillac Eldorado Forum Discussion, What could make cooling fans not work in Past Cadillac Vehicle Discussion; I have a 1997 cadillac sts and the cooling fans won't work even if i turn on the air conditioner ...
I have a 1997 cadillac sts and the cooling fans won't work even if i turn on the air conditioner still won't come on the car over heats still won't come on. I changed the relays the tempeture sensor fans still won't come on. i had it put on a machine at auto zone i got a code the code is p1660 "cooling fan circuit fault"
it says probable cause " open or short circuit condition in the driver circuit or failed cooling fan relay" please help me and would this be expensive to fix i love my cadillac..
I would also check to see if you apply 12volt directly to fans if they operate to see if they are actually good. As a short term fix you could wire them to run all the time until you can figure out the issue. If you do hot wire them put a fuse in the wire. The relays are in an area that gets alot of corrosion, it's possible the relay connectors and or wiring are corroded and bad.
Check the AC fuse and/or relay. That's where the fan control circuit gets power from.
Has any other work recently been done on the front of the engine?
There is a ground wire for the fans on the left front of engine. It could disconnected or broken.
If you can't find it, ground the black wire on the right side fan, not the left side. The right side is the one with a black & light blue wire. The left side has a black & white (not this one).
But there is a fan circuit code. Can the PCM pick up a fault in the high amp circuit or just a break in the low amp or control circuit? Anyone?
1997 E/K body DTC P1660 is a Quad Driver Module 1 Output failure. A Quad Driver is a an electronic switch used to control relays, solenoids, etc. Typically the +12 Vdc operating voltage is supplied to the device and the Quad Driver supplies the ground to complete the circuit. In this instance the Quad Driver is located on the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and is used to control the fans. However, the Quad Driver is not controlling the fans directly because they draw too much current. Instead the Quad Driver controls the relays that switch power to the fans when energized. Therefore, the problem involves the fan control relays and not the fans. The relays receive +12 Vdc from the AC compressor fuse.
Was that English or spanish? i didn't understand any of that. i replaced the relays they still won't come on i change the fuses still won't come on. is there a way i could test the fans without hot wiring. could it be the switch? how much would estimate the repair of wiring would cost
so are you saying i have to replace the pcm? that thing is expensive very expensive could i use one off ebay that's like used? and how much would it cost to have it programmed
the ac comp fuse was bad you think that could make them come on?
thank you so much i pulled the fuse and it was burnt old and dusty and crusty. i put a new one and omg they came on at top speed i really appreciate. it's my first cadillac i love it so much wooo thanks alot man
