Unhappy Drivers side rear Brake locked - Third time

The driverís side rear brake on my 98 SLS locked up about 6 months ago and before I noticed it burned through the pad down to the rivets and ruined the rotor. I replaced the caliper, rotor and pads. About two months later during a state inspection they said this brake had excessive wear and the wheel was locked or very hard to move. Since caliper, rotor were new the thought was that it was the rubber brake line. This 98 SLS is not my regular drive as I alternate between it and my 01 SLS. It has 211,000 miles and the rubber brake line was a strong suspect. So I replace the line and the pads and it seemed fine and passed inspection.

Then yesterday going down the driveway I notice a grinding sound and when I looked the pads where down to the rivets and the rotor was ruined again. I am at a loss as to what is happening. I am thinking maybe the emergency brake but I never use it so why would it all of a sudden lock up.

I am hoping other readers with more experiences can give some ideas about what is happening.

Parking brake cable. The cable has four parts. The two rearward ones that go to the calipers rust internally and won't release easily after using the parking brake. Happened to my car and many others.

That would be the most obvious but he says he never uses it.
Anyone else use the car & step on it? Valet parker, kids...

I don't know the exact internals of the ABS unit, but I do know it has 4 separate valves.

Missed that. But it does sound like the cable. If the parking brake definitely doesn't get used I am unsure what it could be

Sounds like it's binding time and not the ebrake. Were the pins lubed up and checked for corrosion, were the pads put on correctly with notches lined up?

OR maybe an internally collapsed brake hose acting like a check valve. Not common, but I do recall hearing about that a few times .

I would ass-u-me that everything would have been lubed properly when the caliper was changed.
I have only seen incorrect pin lineup cause a "foghorn" noise, not burn-up.

I guess you can crack the bleeder right after driving/pumping & see if there's pressure trapped in the line.

And I'll throw a wrench into the mix.

Internally collapsed brake hose. No way to see it from the outside, but once you bleed thru with the new hose, I'll bet it makes a TON of difference.

BTW, best to replaces anything hydraulic in pairs (calipers, brake hoses etc.)

Re: Drivers side rear Brake locked - Third time

Thanks guys for all the responces. I was on a trip yesterday and today and couldn't check until tonight. I got the new rotor and pads and will replace them tomorrow. I am not going to connect the parking brake this time and check the pads more offen. Also I am going to flush all the brake fluide for new.

I think I installed the caliper correctly but will check that also. And yes I did replace the hose.

I have a quetion about ABS. I didn't think the rear brakes were ABS only the front.

    Thanks to everone
