1995 SLS questions - sluggish and slow

Hi, Today I was driving my 1995 sls and had two problems occur with it. Today I decided to full throttle my car and see the real power it has, but was very confused. Once I started to go it had really sluggish acceleration. It was almost like the rpm was limited to only go up to 4000 rpm. The RPM slowly went up like I was only at half throttle. It didn't even get up to 5000 rpm by the time I did make it to 60. It was on a flat road. and took a lot just to get to 60mph!!!

My other question is when driving a "service Ride control" message came on then went away. The only code was s060(Left Front Position Sensor Fault) which was a history code. The message only comes on for one second then goes away.

    Please help
    Thank you

What did you see in your rear view mirror during this "full throttle" attempt ?

Your engine might be dying of too much love and tenderness ................ or something is wrong in the drivetrain that is causing a 2nd gear start from a dead stop.

I saw some smoke in the mirror, but what do you mean dying of to much love?

Oh. Well I did buy it off an old man who said he never really drove it like a young teenager. If I start driving hard do you think this could solve the problem?

As with any other mechanical device that has never been used to its maximum potential, you begin slowly. Your engine is apparently used to running slowly, so you need to begin a regimine of exercising the thing. Use it or lose it.

Go way up to the top black bar and study - don't simply read - the Cadillac Technical Archive, especially the articles on Northstar cooling systems and "Occasional full throttle operation is good ...........". Now go down to the Engines; Northstar Performance forum and read through the sticky posts at the top of the threads page - tons of engine systems info.

    Strictly my opinion
, but, when you get ready to begin the engine workout, dump a 20 oz. jug of Chevron TECHRON in a fill-up of a Top Tier 93 octane gasoline. That alone will clean the entire fuel system of unwanted goop and snot. Google "top tier gasoline" to find out why.

Many parts outlets carry TECHRON - every once in a while AutoBarn does a blowout sale - but the stuff is recommended for use at - at most - 5,000 mile intervals - it's strong snake oil.

The suspension code - put the front end up on jackstands, pull the wheels. Check all the suspension electrical connectors for cleanliness and electrical contact. Radio Shack electronics cleaner or tuner spray on the opened brass contacts. Your code suggests a level of active suspension control or height monitoring ability - that will trigger codes if there's a fault - and it may default your transmission to a (sluggish) 2nd gear start.

The chances of a "computer fault" (ECM) are slim and none. The ECM is telling you that it has sensed a problem.

Alright thanks for the response. One more question. A problem with the sensor for the suspension will cause transmission problems?

No. It may limit your speed to 90 MPH though, but you'll get a message on the DIC if that's the case.

Wouldn't a clogged CAT cause a check engine light?

Not necessarily. I seem to recall several of these and the only symptom was that it was hard to get it moving. Just something to consider. Check the back pressure or disconnect the CAT and see if it makes a difference.

If it is a clogged CAT, is there a way to clean it? And if it is a transmission issue, what do you guys think the problem is, and is there a way to check?

How long have you had it? 1 day, 1 week, or more? No test drive before you bought it? How many miles?
