    99 STS Starting disabled??

I currently have a 99 sts, and at random times in the morning when i start it up, it shakes kinda bad at idle, and i get a warning "Starting Disabled", then the car shuts off. I start it back up and it's just fine. Anyone know what would cause this?

    Welcome Aboard !!!

Your car has its own built-in diagnostic code system. Study the proper year group/button push sequence up ^^^ in the sticky post just above - "How to pull codes". Write down any found codes and whether each is Current or History. Now go to http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/ and, using the main page as well as the links in the second paragraph, decipher all codes found. Write it all down and post it all here.

Read all the stickys in this forum page - just above this post - as well as those in Engines; Northstar Performance. Go up ^^^ to the top black bar and study the entire Cadillac Technical Archive - there's info there that you need to know and that few people even bother to learn.

Well, at least yours starts and runs after, my 99 ESC gives me the same error message and just plain wont start.

Which is why I've decided to part it out.

Have you cleaned the pellet on your ignition key with a pencil eraser?

    I've heard that works.

If you're getting that message, there is a code.

I don't know if it's a bug or what, but there are no codes. It simply, on startup, reads starting disabled then the car cuts off. Once I fire it back up, it acts completely fine.

    Re: 99 STS Starting disabled??

On my 00 ETC the "Starting Disabled" message means the anti-theft circuit resistance value provided by the ignition key pellet is "incorrect" and can produce DTC B2710 when a zero (open circuit) resistance is measured. I am reasonably sure your 99 STS operates the same. This link discusses the problem : http://www.docstoc.com/docs/68098095...let-Resistance

Accordingly, when you turn the Ignition Switch to the On position the fuel pump starts for a couple of seconds which pressurizes the the fuel rail. When you start the engine it runs on the fuel in the system but the fuel pump does not restart due to the DTC being set so the engine shuts down on fuel starvation. Apparently when you attempt a restart, the DTC B2710 clears because the correct resistance is present and pump restarts so the engine keeps running. Other related DTCs can invoke a 3 minute wait before a restart sequence can be initiated.

Did you pull the codes through the DIC?
