Need Help With Passive Struts and Shocks

Hi all, I need someone help about passive struts and shocks.

I have a 2000 Cadillac Seville STS, and I cannot find the correct part numbers for passive shocks and struts and also cannot make up my mind which ones to get i prefer Monroe. I can get a set of OEM rear shocks w/o electronic level control brand new for $90 a pair will these work. Which passive struts can i get for the front that might have the spring installed already.

I do have the FE3 and F45 options

Also what size resisitor from radio shack should i purchase to bypass the suspension system?

    PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!

What's wrong with ur shocks? Do u have a ride height issue due to airline leaks or bad compressor or shock body seepage or are you getting service suspension messages or did a shop just say u need new shocks?

Re: Need Help With Passive Struts and Shocks

I purchased the vehicle from an elderly man that unfortunately cannot drive no longer, after checking the vehicle the vehicles needs struts and shocks they rattle in the front and back, the vehicle bottoms out going over a bump front and back. The vehicles has 177,709 miles and has the orginal struts and shocks. The compressor works fine, no service suspension messages. I do have some shock body leakage due to rott on the boot.

    Monroe struts - 71684
    Monroe shocks - MA822

Monroe does make a Quick-Strut assembly, but the springs are softer than your stock springs.

Check on RockAuto, Amazon, and google the part numbers for the best price.

    Resistors - 1/2 watt, 4.7K ohm. $1.19 for a 5 pack at RadioShack.

for the correct parts available for your car -
    go to http://monroe.com/

then do a search of those part numbers -

rockauto.com has had the best prices lately -
partsgeek.com and amazon.com are also good sources -

Re: Need Help With Passive Struts and Shocks

I have done that on a bunch of different sites. There is always more then one.

On my drivers side rear shock, the nut on the top of the shock broke thru the shock mount plate. I went to auto zone and bought the rear shock mount that had listed for my car and it ended up being the wrong size. Even the shocks they listed didn't match up right. They looked right but didn't fit. All that work to get the shock out (outside while it was snowing) and then it didn't fit. It was such a pain in the ass too. Trying to figure out how to get the nut to break loose. Either the shock wanted to twist or when using a big pry bar to hold it from doing so the piston rod ( i think that's what its called ).

The price for Cadillac parts are ridiculous!!! To replace the rear shocks it will cost more then I paid for the car in 09. And that's with buying aftermarket parts

    shocks don't really rattle

maybe you just need sway bar links or something

    Hi

First thank you very much for all your help, I have installed the struts and shocks over the weekend in my 2000 cadillac STS. For all that was skeptacle about a different ride in there STS they are mistaken. My Caddy rides like a dream smooth, actually better than before. The bypass resistor worked out great. Being a master technician for cadillac for 15 years you never stop learning something new. Thank you again for all your help.
