actually - if it can still be done -
YOUR involvement is quite easy -

take your car to the dealership -
give them a couple hundred dollars -
sign a couple year agreement with OnStar -

and that's it - IF it can be done anymore -

    Re: Analog OnStar

I don't believe there is a way to upgrade your OnStar. When mine no longer worked GM sent me a coupon for two years free OnStar service if I bought or leased a new GM car. Which I did I leased a 07 CTS and had OnStar working for free. When my lease was up I simply turned in the CTS as I just wasn't as happy with that car as I am with my 02 Eldorado! In this day and age OnStar is just not necessary, phone coverage has never been better and forget OnStar's turn by turn directions!

Call your dealer with your VIN, they'll tell you if YOUR car can be upgraded. Any '02+ Seville should be.

    Re: Analog OnStar

I called ONSTAR this past week and I was told by them that all that was needed is to pay $15 and that would pay for the Digital upgrade. I will find out later this week when I go to the dealer for this

    Re: Analog OnStar

Your 2003 is "upgradeable". You take the car to a GM dealer, they run the VIN into the OnStar database - the info comes back, the dealer makes you an appointment based on estimated equipment arrival. You get a call and take the car in and sit for 2.5 hours while the original analog guts and antenna base are changed out and the new transceiver activated by OnStar. You'll be billed for some small upgrade fee, BUT this is based on you taking out at least a one-year basic subscription - about $145 (???) and then, if you want, you can add packages of 200 hands-free phone minutes at $70 + tax. Count on $250 or so by the time you drive away.

(Mid-2002 and later can be upgraded) I did it in 11/2007. (Your 2003 will not have the OnStar diagnostics service..........)

As I recall the price of the upgrade is something like $216 unless you have some rare module which I'm pretty sure you don't.

    Hi 03 STS Seville,

Everyone is correct, you can take your vehicle to the dealer to check your specific VIN to see if an upgrade is eligable. If you have any questions after that just let me know.

    '03 STS: OnStar not digital?

I just picked up my lovely '03 STS (black/black) w/168K km on it. It rides beautifully, everything works (except the cigarette lighter outlet, no power, will be fixed). Tried to set up an OnStar account, hit the OnStar button twice as requested and it just beeps and beeps and beeps, then fails with "cannot connect to service" message..and then, "Goodbye".

I called OnStar and the woman (obviously in the Philippines, don't get me started on that topic) told me that although my car is OnStar compatible, it currently has an analog configuration and they no longer support it, has to be upgraded by GM/Cadillac dealer to digital for $15.00 (according to her).

Is this correct? For $15 I think it's worth doing if it'll work, and then maybe try the service for a short while to see how I like it. I have CAA (Canadian counterpart of AAA), so I might not really need some of the services.

Thanks. I'm so excited to have my new car. And the stereo is great, no plans to change anything.

Yes the OnStar in your car can be upgraded, but to be honest that $15 sounds too good to be true especially since is Canada we are talking about.

Wow, how come I couldn't find that? LOL ....

It's exactly what I need. I spoke with a dealer earlier this evening and they confirmed that they would order the module for me and do the upgrade. So I think I'm all set for now. Thanks.
