Engine starts instantly after 2nd try although starter does sound a little weak . Would a slight strobe effect (barely noticible) of the headlights be a indication of a faultly voltage regulator ?

If this occurs reliably, this also supports our solenoid contacts theory....

Just a follow up. I tested the battery after a few trips around town and the voltage was about 11,96 so I went to COSTCO and exchanged my battery turns out it was 3 and half years old. I paid 63 dollars originally. got 42 bucks back and found it the new battery for was 81 bucks. I so much for the warranty. So far no issues but the temp is warmer here will be back in the teens later this week so we will have to see what happens

Well guess what, its pretty dam cold here and my problem is back looks like I'm gonna have to replace the starter. I plan on using the quick method. Any problems with proping up the back of the intake like its been discussed here ? TX.

Yours is basically the same, but you have a steel fuel rail so you may not get away without disconnecting it. Don't forget to relieve the fuel pressure before disconnecting it.

2 things, I was wondering how to remove the wires from the fuel injectors. I removed the Grey plastic lock in but the wires won't come off I don't want to force anything. It seems like when the weather is warmer the problem goes away. I what's that about. It is can't be the battery it's new! Tx

You remove the gray safety locks and then depress the injector connector safety clip.

I'm gonna try and get this done tommrow. I was looking at this and was wondering if the fuel line and wires to the injectors were removed could the manifold and injector rail be moved as 1 piece?

When my starter was going bad, I had the same issues, except I had to turn the key many times near the end for it to start. I was able to find a "new used" starter at a junkyard for $10.00 (i.e., someone had replaced the original already). After I replaced it, it started like a new car.

On my 98 Seville STS, I didn't remove any wires from the injectors. After I disconnected the fuel lines (and whatever else was in the way), I just removed the intake manifold as one piece with everything attached.

Just a few closing comments on this one! The starter replacement is really not that difficult. Almost any one in this forum could probably do it. It looks more than it is. On my 2k eldo I found it necessary to remove all the componets because there was not enough room for the manifold to move back and forth . Althought not mentioned in the FSM it was necessary for me to remove the 3 bolts in front of the throttle body to allow the manifold to come straight up. Some have suggested that it isnt necessary to replace the manifoild gaskets but by visually inspection of the old ones I would say your asking for trouble . it took me about 3 hours , but i was disturbed a few times . If i did it again I could do it in 2 . Turned out the positive post comming out of the solonoid was loose causing a intermittment bad connection .
