New fuel level sensor, now fuel gauge is off. How to calibrate?

I have a 2001 STS and I just put a new GM fuel pump and sensor into the tank. The job went well, however, now when I fill the tank the gauge shows approx 1/16-1/8 below full. Similarly, it shows empty when there is 1/16-1/8 of a tank of fuel left. So it's reading approximately 10% too low.

Does this car somehow auto calibrate the min/max positions of the fuel tank? (Wishful thinking)?

If not, how do I calibrate this gauge/sender. I'm not looking forward to removing the pump assembly AGAIN, but...the float is connected to a V shaped arm. Does this symptom mean I need to bend the arm (straighten)? And how much to bend? I don't want to do this same job 5 times...aaahh..

    Thanks!

In the gen. V cars the fuel gage change is a breeze because of the access panel. The adjustment is straightening back to original the float arm that was bent during install (or during the part handling).
If it shows too low the arm is bent UP, if it shows too high the arm is bent down.

Ok - Now the tough question...how much to bend it! I still have the original pump so I can compare (but I'm sure I didn't bend it during installation).

If the new matches the original, I have to manually calibrate (hopefully not more than once). Assuming my calculation of gauge reading 10% too low is right, and assuming the arm travels approx 150' from full to empty that would mean a 15' bend.

Please excuse my ignorance, can't you replace the fuel pump onto the original sender? If so, isn't that the way to go?

The pump and sender have changed in numerous ways - including the mount for the sender (so you can't move the old one over). The intake filter (on the outside of the pump) is gone, the pump connector is different.

More importantly, it's the sender that failed. given the effort to do the job, I figured I'd do the pump too...

You can buy fuel level sensor/sender separate from the pump ,I think the connector for that is the same they changed the main connector for the power.the pressure sensor and fuel level sensor connectors are the same.
