    1999 STS | Traction control module/Rearview mirror???

    One last electrical gremlin.

Dothe tranction control module and the rearview mirror compass share a common ground? They constantly short out and power back on at the same time. Almost always when i start the vehicle they "lag" by about 30 seconds and they also cycle on and off while i am driving.

    Thanks for any ideas.

    b1805 |History| - Ignition Switch Problem
    there's your problem!

All those U codes are probably related with this, looks like in the same way the mirror does not get power on time so do the other modules (stuff you don't see).

C1736 |Current| - Compressor Relay Short to GND/Open Circuit (Intentional)
This will cost you about $500 (new ELC compressor)

C1761 |Current| - Right Front Position Sensor Input Fault
Remove your front left wheel and inspect if that small rod is attached between the lower control arm and the height sensor. Worst case scenario (assuming the wiring is fine too) you need a ~$200 height sensor.

C1780 |History| - Loss of Steering Position Signal
Very common issue with gen V cars, especially around '99 production year. Is a $80 steering position sensor at the base of the steering column. Can be changed relatively easy, post on how to do it available on this forum.

C1783 |History| - ICCS2 DL Left Output Short Circuit to GND
C1785 |History| - ICCS2 DL Right Output Short Circuit to GND
This is the 2 ICCSII Data Lines between EBTCM and CVRSS (communicates the road surface texture from CVRSS to EBTCM to control the aggressively of the ABS action when required). These lines replace the need of having the snow, sand, gravel and rain selection button like in other (simpler) cars.
Is either the EBTCM or the CVRSS shorting the lines to ground or you have a harness issue.

Re: 1999 STS | Traction control module/Rearview mirror???

Thanks a lot n*caddy. Nice to know what direction to travel in!
The c1736 code is there because i have removed the relay so my compressor won't run. I did this a a short term solution as the bladders on the rear air are both shot (leaking badly).
I will start by searching for solutions to the b1805 code.

Where is the ground specific to the Ebtcm & cvrss?

Is not common, CVRSS is in the trunk, EBTCM is behind the radiator - driver's side.
