    Heated seats

I purchased my third early 90's eldorado. I love these cars!!!! the new one is a Florida 94 base with 85,000 miles. Thank goodness all the service records show the coolant system service has always been maintained. my question is the car being from Florida it is not equipped with heated seats. There are wires under the seats going to the seat back and the seat base. Are the heaters already there and there is just no control? That is what i found with the garage door opener, the wiring was there, just no controller. I can't imagine gm actually built 2 different seats on the assembly line for these cars. thanks for any help. Mike

    Re: Heated seats

At a minimum seats would be assembled on a completely separate line from the car itself (and most likely from a sub-contractor and not GM) where there is definite cost savings from omitting the materials and labor required to install the heating coils or other options in the seats.

Wiring harnesses (even though most likely sub-contracted as well) are a completely different matter as the huge number of permutations possible given different trim lines, accessories, options, dealer add-ons, etc. would not only create a supply nightmare but almost certainly greatly increase costs were they perfectly tailored to each individual vehicle.
