There's supposed to be a small hose clamp on the purge line at the tank nipple: That line carries full 18 psi system pressure and you DO NOT want it to blow off on the beltway in traffic !

Oh yeah the clamp is on there but the hose doesn't fit snug.plus that hose is starting to crack .how likely would it be to loose pressure from a old worn purge line and do those clamps ever loose tension?

Those spring clamps are one-time only. Factory assembly. Any time you replace or move a hose - any hose - you should replace the spring clamp with a screw-type band clamp. Don't get carried away - snug it up, just don't unduly squash the hose in question.

If the purge line is cracking, replace it - take it to the parts store with you - with a length of proper sized fuel line: Fuel line has an internal braid reinforcement and will withstand the 18 psi system pressure. Use new small band clamps on each end - at the metal nipple and at the reservoir.

Remove the purge line with the engine cold and slap a vacuum nipple cap over the metal nipple - you'll lose only a teaspoon of coolant that way. Vacuum caps - in various sized in blister packs on the Help! racks.

The vacuum pump...........the little blue rubber thingy is one of about 8 different sizes of readily available vacuum caps.

Well I know for sure the clamp for the purge line on the tank side has been removed a few times since I had the car, I'll get that changed asap.

All they had was a 3/8 transmission oil cooler line.should that hold the pressure ?

Re: Hot Northstar - Please help !

If the 3/8 is the same internal size as your purge line it will be just fine - leave a bit of slack - similar to the original line - to allow for engine movement.

Transmission oil cooler line ??? Do you have to cut fittings off it ??? If so, that stuff is too stiff to work correctly on the plastic reservoir nipple.

I find it hard to believe that a large parts store would not have rolls of different sized fuel hose.

Yeah the hose had the same internal size fit snug over the nipples the old hose was worn out on the tank side.it was a rubber transmission cooler line there were no fittings the only thing different was the cooler line was a little thicker overall but same internal size.

If it fits correctly and has a bit of slack, you're good to go - with new small band clamps.

Yeah I did that but temp still goes up on the highway a tad ,I guess I need to get that bottom air deflector then go from there.I can still wiggle the water pump belt a tad after changing it.

Ok, step three I think I in the fsm is to make sure the air baffle and, deflectors are in place (don't have the bottom one but didn't do this last summer) where is so there is the top and bottom air deflectors and the side flaps is that it?maybe its cause im missing the air deflector dont know why it didnt do this last summer also one of the steps is to check the coolant concentration and i did have my coolant flushed and changed right around the the time this started.the mechanic was on the slacker side so i wouldnt doubt it if he didnt mix it right, maybe he didnt mix it right and with no bottom air deflector could be enough for the temp to go up some on the highway.fingerscrossed..
