Just changed the water pump belt , not to bad of a job.the old belt was stretched out compared to the new one, is that normal wear and tear ? Still need to drive and see what happens.

I've never seen these belts "stretch" very much, but I suppose a minimal amount is possible.

It was probably stretched about a half inch to an inch of the new one.

How reliable is the spring on the tensioner pulley, should I be able to release the tension by using my hands ( i'm not a huge guy either)

I have never had my tensioner off, but I don't think you should be able to move it very much (if at all) by hand.

Generally speaking, the tensioners are pretty reliable. It's the pulley bearings that will go first.

You can move it by hand, but it should be very difficult.

Ok so after changing the wp belt I took a drive on the highway with no traffic the needle went up a tad twice both times was driving up a hill then it went back to the middle when the road leveled out, before on the highway when the needle went up (would go up more than a tad) it wouldn't come back down till I parked.its not as Hot today either if that means anything.

I'd just keep an eye on it. If it is a problem, it will get worse and let you know.

I read another thread where some of the first steps are to check the coolant concentrate and the air dams, which I never had the bottom splash shield(temp never went up before) and I did have a coolant flush this spring.
