Yes, the engine has to run the compressor, which saps a bit of power, and uses more fuel.

FWIW, the compressor is disabled under WOT.

    Oops, sub beat me.

Oh I didn't know it disables under wot what about climbing hills under heavy acceleration, cause one time I was on a hilly section of highway doing btwn 65-70mph with some hard acceleration and my AC started blowing warm air for a second then when the road leveled out it blew cold again.

It all depends on how far you have your foot into it. I forget if it is 80%, 90% or 100% throttle that disengages the compressor, but it sounds normal. I wouldn't worry about it.

The A/C compressor will drop out when any of a slew of load/speed/performance settings are exceeded. Normal. The amount of "stuff" that goes on in the drivetrain of these cars during any normal day of driving would drive you crazy to try and guess how/why/when/where.

When you're out there heading for Luray and coasting down the west side of Panorama mountain, did you know that the fuel injectors are automatically turned off until you step on the gas again ???

    Ooooppppssss - sorry, Ranger.

Sure........ 50/50 coolant boils at about 220 degrees, so if the temp never went close to that the coolant would not boil off. The drawback is that unpressurized coolant (the whole system) doesn't move heat from the engine metal to the radiator for cooling very well, it allows the water pump to cavitate, thus creating gas pockets and possible overheating, and it seriously restricts the engine temperature operating range because pressurized coolant (16-18 psi) doesn't boil until it hits over 265 degrees.

My temp never use to move till after I had my tranny replaced, is there any thing from the cooling system they probably would of disconnected to remove the tranny (they left engine in) that maybe didn't hook up back right/tight clamp, etc.?

Question, in the summer after driving how long should it take for the engine to cool completely to the touch.cause last night I came home around 12: 30am and when I went to work at 6:30 am I was checking my oil and my engine was slightly warm to the touch.it was 100 degrees yesterday if that means anything.

Cool down time depends greatly on ambient temperatures. That doesn't sound abnormal for a day that was 100 degrees.

Wasn't sure cause this was over night for about six hours even though the sun want out it was still in the mid 70's, thought it was odd that the engine was slightly warm still in the morning.

Not odd at all - that's a pretty large chunk of metal, coolant, and plastic in there.............

I have to admit when I first got my car and before I learned of this website I put the coolant tabs in.not only did I put them but I put them in the reservoir not the bottom hose.the needle never used to move till earlier this year.could the sealant tabs maybe clogged the heater core up (purge line is fine) or would the tabs sit a the bottom of the tank? I think I broke them up in pieces or maybe crushed them can't remember.
