Poll: How Many Trunk Latches Have You Been Through?
I've had two go out on me since I've had my Eldorado. The first time it just plain broke....the second time, a wire deep within the recesses of the trunk went bad. how bout you guys?
and by the way, doesn't it make you sick when someone slams your trunk grrrrrrr
Yeah, That's the first thing I ask people about when they're trunk lock breaks. It's a very common mistake that people make particularly when it's their first Cadillac and they're not used to the pull down latch!
mabey you need a sticker to stick to the trunk that says "Don't Slam Me!" I know I've done it once because I didn't know about the pull down on a Buick that I worked on DOH!
Sometimes, I wonder why Cadillac installs pull-downs in the first place. On other modern cars, closing is usually a breeze plus you don't have to worry about a $50 part dyin' on you.
'Cause , It's a "CADILLAC" and Caddy people love to have little gadjets like that! Which is partly true, You need to remember that they have had these pull downs since the '70s when everybody else had to slam the crap out of the trunk to get it to close! It was VERY cool then, It's a little out dated now and will probably go away soon.....Hopefully!
I always thought it was cool, but always wondered why they were there. They only pull down the trunk about 2 in. People arent that lazy that they cant push the trunk down that far (take that back, me :-D ). What would be really cool is if there was a button on the trunk that would take it ALL the way down. That would be cadillac at its best.
Sometimes in my ceramic tile business I have to load a small order in someone's trunk. When I do, if they're around, I'll just lay the lid down softly and it won't close. I look at them and say "oh.....that's right....it's not a Cadillac".
Of course, once in a while you get a Lincoln with a power trunk.
It does seem kind of silly though.
Also, on our 93 Deville, next to the mechanism, there is a yellow "unlock doors" button, so, if you're loading in the trunk you don't have to fumble around for a remote. I wish my 96 SLS had this feature too.
