Cadillac Seville / Cadillac Eldorado Forum Discussion, battery again?? in Past Cadillac Vehicle Discussion; No need to install a switch if you suspect the RAP system. The RAP fuse has two spades, but there ...
I'm not sure if Bose components sold to GM were the same as some other manufacturers, but Bose components such as:
Audi's rear deck amplified speakers ( possibility of drawing power when off and sometimes even fire! )
Acura's either amps or crossovers failing and burning
BMW's trunk mounted amps coming on when they feel like it and draining battery power. ( especially 7 series, if I'm right ).
So, in a knee jerk reaction to your post, consider the Bose equipment. I think the codes will probably start with AMP. Please do post up with what you find. I'd like to add your experience to my list of possible needs on my own STS.
Ive spent ages this evening reading this forum. I seem to have lost the ability to send private messages. I cant see a DTC sticky at the top of the page ...or anywhere else and I'm feeling a bit silly now. Thank you for your patience. I will let you know how I get on. All I can say at the moment is pulling out the fuse 63 stops the power drain (Audio Amplifier). I have also noticed that the very large speaker (woofer?) at the rear window works intermittantly and now wonder if that's significant.
A J ..
I will then go a step further and say that it is the amplified rear speaker's amp ( if it is it's own ) or it is the main amp. Did you ever get the AMP codes showing on your Codes? ( You may need to shut down the session of IE and re-open CF in order to be able to see the sticky for it. )
I wish you the best of luck, and am glad you found that pulling # 63 stops the drain.
Well, I got the DTC codes and there were NO AMP codes!!. There were loads of other codes which I'll write after this. they were all (H)... There were also some U codes. The car has not been near a Cadillac dealer since 2005 so I would guess that these have been in existence for a long time. Otherwise annual servicing has been done by an independant with telephone contact to the ?one Cadillac agent that exists in England (Bauer Millet) Is there any nearer Plymouth, Devon does anyone know?
For the time being, it seems that if I lock the car with the remote, the battery retains its charge. Apparently everything works. A warning lamp for loss of traction ABS and stability came on twice in the last two years and that coincided with both front wheel bearings failing. The warning lamps stopped coming on when the bearings were replaced.
Thank you for all your help. I'm sorry if Ive wasted your time, but the Bose amplifier remains a mystery as does the intermittant fault on the woofer rear deck speaker
Further to the above. After a long period of fault free running, the battery went flat rapidly after sitting int he car playing a CD for a few minutes. the DTC codes were AMP 1327 and AMP1300 which indicate "device power is low" and "class 2 short to ground" respectively. So "Automark" you were almost certainly correct with your diagnosis and the Bose amplifier.
All that remians now is how to fix the short I guess!
