2000 STS "Service Suspension System - Speed limited to 90"

I just bought my Grandfather's Cadillac....a lifelong dream. I'm 47 and feeling old but I love this car which is an extra for me. Only 56,000 miles and I only paid $5,000 and all seems well except I do have this readout listed above about servicing the suspension system. I am just looking for some input and/or knowledge before I head over to the dealer.

Re: 2000 STS "Service Suspension System - Speed limited to 90"

    go here
    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...odes-dtcs.html
see if there are any current codes

write them down, then go back to the thread and click on the second link... the one under "If your car is a 1996 model or newer, go here:"
and translate the codes to english...
then come back here and post up the codes and their definitions...

without the codes all you can really tell is that there's some sort of suspension problem and it's limiting your speed... you may have a simple cheap fix or an expensive one ahead...

Re: 2000 STS "Service Suspension System - Speed limited to 90"

hey thanks...I am totally new to this. I got 5 codes that have History after them and 1 that said Current. Does that mean the one at issue is the Current and the others have been addressed in the past?

The only code that was current was:

C0577 which I looked up and was "Left Front Solenoid Circuit Low"

    Which means nothing to me

Re: 2000 STS "Service Suspension System - Speed limited to 90"

I believe you are about to spend another ~$700 fro the car in a left-front strut. Have a look on the strut (remove the wheel) and inspect if the connector that goes to the strut (on the strut not next to the strut) is clean and snug. If it is then check with Rippy for a new strut.
Read here to understand how is your suspension working and why it cost so much. In fact read the whole Techical Archive is good information.
Don't ignore the History codes, they may tell you some extra information.

Re: 2000 STS "Service Suspension System - Speed limited to 90"

history codes are codes that set some time in the past... usually you don't have to worry about them... especially if they are "U" codes since those ones are communication codes and communications hiccups happen... so as long as you don't have any "U" codes current there's no problem

    this post
    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...stem-code.html
sheds some light on the code
it's not the exact same code, but similar

maybe someone else will chime in with a bit more specifics

That DTC indicates a potential chassis wire harness problem at the LF strut OR a failed strut solenoid.

You can repair a wiring problem.

Your options for a failed strut solenoid are limited.
One would be to replace the strut and taking that option means you really should replace BOTH struts. Pricey.

Two would be to live with the condition, the messages, and the speed limited condition.

Three would be to susbstitute a 4.7 KOhm resistor for the LF strut solenoid which would disable the messages but would NOT restore your factory suspension performance.

Re: 2000 STS "Service Suspension System - Speed limited to 90"

you could hook up with rippy for a new strut i forget what they run but i think he can get them for around 600-700 but maybe im wrong

you couldlso just go grab a used one from a junk yard thats personaly what i would do
you c pick used ones up in Cleveland all day long for like 75-125 dollars low miles

Re: 2000 STS "Service Suspension System - Speed limited to 90"

Thanks...and to others who replied also. Seems like 56,000 miles is early to have to replace strut? I will probably live with it for awhile. The car rides awesome.

could be anyting from weather to how car was driven before you had it
these are electronic struts so keep in mind its not like a regular strut
your right 56k is erly to change one of these struts they should last good till 150k atleast id think
i have 167 and mine from what i can tell are orginal

Re: 2000 STS "Service Suspension System - Speed limited to 90"

pull the codes (read the sticky thread for how to pull the codes and how to get their definitions)
could be many things but the code will point you in the right direction
