    Question Recommended Coolant Temp

I have a '95 SLS, which does NOT have an analog gauge for coolant temp, just the info found on the DIC. This is the first vehicle I've owned without a dedicated gauge (I've added one to my '62), so when I read threads on what position the gauge is indicating (for example, anything past the 12 O'Clock position should be monitored for overheat condition), what does that translate into temp in degrees? At what point do I consider the temp to be high? Currently, in stop and go, AC on, I get readings of 196 to 207 degrees.

Your running temperature is perfect. Temps will, and should, cycle on the road and in traffic. Probably from about 195 to 218, depending on ambient air temps.

Put this picture in your translation list - the idea is JimD's but modified by me.

The thermostat starts at 188 and is fully open at 206. Fans go to SLOW any time an A/C function is set, or, if A/C is OFF, then fans go to SLOW at 224 and FAST at 236. Overheat and camel mode occurs around 265 or so.

    Re: Recommended Coolant Temp

Submariner (The Marvel Super-Hero) - Thanks for the Analog to Digital translation, and for the best news I've heard all week! Since this vehicle had transmission failure and a shot water pump, I was concerned that the engine would have run hot as well (4.6 N*). At least I now know what the critical temp points are.

    Many Thanks, again!
