Blower motor or fuse I have a 97 Eldorado with the Northstar engine. Yesterday the ventilation fan just stopped dead. I checked the fuse listing but do not see a fuse that controls the fan. I have read several posts that suggest that the blower motors fail on this model. If that is the case, how difficult is it to replace the blower motor? Or is there a fuse or fuseable link that I am missing? Is it typical for the blower motor to just fail like this?
The vehicle has 98K miles and tremendous sentimental value, so I would like to keep it in tip top shape. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Blower motor or fuse
Read the entire sticky at the top of the main Seville/Eldorado main page titled "How to pull codes". Practice getting your car's Diagnostic Trouble Codes from the built-in system. Write them all down, noting whether each is Current or History and return to the thread. Use the URL with "obd2" in the address to open a link to code definitions. Use the lines/links in the Master Index box to get definitions of any P,B,C, or U codes present.
C'mon back..........

Yes. Check the Tech Tips section for a tutorial on changing it. Then you can decide if you are up to it. It is similar to the Devilles. Is it typical for the blower motor to just fail like this?

Re: Blower motor or fuse
check the maxi fuse box
on my 94 eldo it is below the standard fuse location
look in the OEM book for the maxi fuse spot
if i remember, i believe it is a 50 amp fuse that control 2 things

Hardley-ETC I have a fuse box under the hood right on the strut housing but I don't see any fuses that indicate that they are associated with the blower. Is there something special about the maxi-fuse?

Find you code definitions here and take note of whether they are current of history.

Re: Blower motor or fuse
the maxi boxes are under the fuse location your see now
there is a right hand and a left hand box
only 4 or 5 fuses in each
they are about 1.5 times bigger than the regular fuses you see
look carefully and you will see the plastic covers will come off
i am at work now and forgot to look in the oem manual last night
do you have a oem manual?
maybe the 97 eldo is a little different than 94, but i think there should still be maxi fuses

Re: Blower motor or fuse
I found the maxi fuses under the canopy that houses the regular fuses. There was a 50 amp fuse that was marked for AC fan. It was still intact. I am guessing that the blower motor is bad. Is there a way to check the connector before I get a new blower motor?

Re: Blower motor or fuse
Wiggle it and see it the blower comes on. Also visually inspect it. If it looks burnt, the blower is failing (or failed).
