97 Seville - Driver window wont roll back up.

All of the other windows work fine except the drivers one, its completely rolled down and refuses to go back up. My neighbor who works on Lincoln's says that its the transmission for the window and needs replacing. I checked the contacts to make sure power was being fed into the switches and that turns out ok.

The problem is, how do you open up the door? We tried looking for the screws that hold it together but they all seem to be hidden. We managed to get a 1 inch screw out from behind the handle, but there are still screws attached in the other parts of the door which we have trouble locating. Any ideas on how to take it apart?

Gotta love GM for making things easy to fix.

Haven't had the `pleasure' of dismantling the door trim yet and don't have my service manual yet, but if all else fails, perhaps you could try talking to a local body shop. I'm sure they can tell you what you're up against.

Re: 97 Seville - Driver window wont roll back up.

dont know about removing the door panel, i can do it but not sure if those clips are reusable. i'd start at the bottem and pull a little then work my way up the sides.. after the thats done. it should lift up and out.

little trick is to slam the door a few times while holding the window switch. if its working on the way down, you might wanna try buying a new swutch to start with. even a little 50 cent one from radio shack..

Re: 97 Seville - Driver window wont roll back up.

I can't say for sure but on the older models the door panel is removed by the screw you found and another hidden screw under the carpet at the lower rear edge of carpet. A triangle shape will bend back if you pull up the corner, it has one of those push in fasteners and there is another screw under the carpet. Now you just lift straight up and the door panel will come right off. DO NOT pull the panel out just lift straight up. It has L shaped hooks that it sits on and they will break if you pull them out not up.

PS if you need help with the motor check this link. I wrote a how to on the motor fix that I did.

Re: 97 Seville - Driver window wont roll back up.

If you can get the door panel off, do this check.

Pull the connector off the motor. Put the probes of your voltmeter into the connector. Press the door window switch (up or down). You should get 12volts when you press the button. Press the button the other direction (down or up) and you should get a reverse 12volts of the first voltage.

If you get this, the switch and wiring are ok. Replace the motor. Autozone for $60, made by Seimens.

If you don't get this, start looking for wiring or switch problems.

Possibly the switch connections are corroded. Try cleaning that up first before making any purchases. Youd be surprised. Do a search on this topic, as there are quite a few threads on it.
