Trunk Lid Pull Down issue - seville 96
Need help for trunk pull down issue. The lock release works fine but pull down does not. I checked a fuse called "Pull Down". This fuse is good. I understand that either some relay for pull down motor power supply or motor itself may be fauly. I have no idea which relay is that, where is it located, and how to test. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this issue or how to replace motor. I will highly appreciate your response. I can not park car outside in Chicago as trunk is open for about an inch in snow season.
Thanks
John

Check the contacts on the switch next to the motor and the switch itself for starters.

Re: Trunk Lid Pull Down issue - seville 96
remove the black platic trim ring around the back of the trunck, after that you can see the wiring.
That switch, which is what you can push down or let up is what is supposed to operate the motor, it may be shot, the motors i checked all worked, i went throught the junk yard testing them.
anyway that switch tells which way for the current to flow and when to flow. If its shot it wont tell anything. I got my motor back down by putting 12v to the appropriate wire on the motor, when it was all the way down you can just leave the motor unplugged and your trunk will operate like any other trunk, trunk release will still work.
then when it not -20 out you can fix or change the switch out if need be, i just use my trunk the way it is.

Cl1986 and Ranger,
Thank you. I will try to check and move the lid down as proposed by Cl1986. Is there any procedure to check the switch?
Thanks

I suppose you could pull the switch and hook up a 12v test lamp and see if it gets power when you press on it.

Re: Trunk Lid Pull Down issue - seville 96
I was waiting for some nice day to fix the Lid pull down issue when I noticed that trunk was some how closed properly. The pull down mechanism is not working. But trunk is closed so I can keep using it
Thanks

Re: Trunk Lid Pull Down issue - seville 96
ok...so how do you know if you have trunk pull down? I just picked up a 94 eldorado that I have to slam to close the trunk, but it looks like there is a pretty large black cover over both the trunk lid and the area where is shuts to the bottom of the trunk...would this be the "pull down"? The remote trunk release works fine as does the release from the glove box...

Re: Trunk Lid Pull Down issue - seville 96
all cadillacs have pull downs....at least on this era vehicle,
in your case, put 12v to the right wire to slightly raise your motor so it shuts nicer, or go all out and replace the motor and switch so it works correctly.
ya the pull down motor is connected to that hoop at the lower part of the trunk, not the trunk lid
pop off the 4 plastic buttons and you will see everything

My 93 Seville 4.9's trunk motor also stopped working in an open position. Had to manually turn the hinge down and i bought epoxy in Target and poured it inside the hinge's plastic case and around hinge on top of the metal surface where it goes inside the motor housing. Worked OK as a regular trunk with release.

Re: Trunk Lid Pull Down issue - seville 96
I bought an eldorado that already had the motor removed from the clear trunk latch mount. I just bought a new motor, but the connector I have to hook into that motor doesn't fit. The motor looks like it takes a two-prong but the wires have a flat female 5-prong connector. Is there an adapter or something I'm supposed to have?
Thank you!
