    Transmission from Aurora

    Hi
My car is Cadillac Seville STS 1998 and I think I need again to change transmission... I found one in my city from Oldsmobile Aurora 1996 model 4T80E and one more: Cadillac STS Seville Northstar, 4600 cm3, 1994.
Is there any chance that any from above will match to my car?

    Re: Transmission from Aurora

I believe the Aurora's 4T80-E had the same gear ratio as STS/ETC's.

    Re: Transmission from Aurora

I think the Aurora was 4.0L with less torque and horsepower - that trans may be the same ratio, but have less clutch plates or be somehow be lighter duty

    Re: Transmission from Aurora

    This is what I found:

The 4T80-E is still in use today, on the Cadillac DTS and the Buick Lucerne (when equipped with the 4.6L Northstar).

    Gear ratios:

    1 2 3 4 R
    2.96 1.63 1.00 0.68 2.13

    Applications:

    3.11:1
    1994–2005 Cadillac Deville
    1993-2002 Cadillac Eldorado
    1993-2004 Cadillac Seville
    2006 Cadillac DTS
    3.71:1
    1996–2005 Cadillac Deville Concours/DTS
    1993-2002 Cadillac Eldorado ETC
    1993-2004 Cadillac Seville STS
    1995-1999 Oldsmobile Aurora Autobahn
    2005–2006 Pontiac Bonneville GXP
    2006 Buick Lucerne V8

My main doubt is ratio if it is the same as in my car.
And... Mileage of this box is 200k km (approx 124000miles) Im not sure if not to big...

    Re: Transmission from Aurora

The Gear Ratios are the same, 3.73, the Aurora also used the 4T65E-HD on the V6 engines and that is the same as the Grand Prix GTP.

It means that there two types of transmissions HD and non-HD? But anyway both will be OK for my car?
This particular transmission if from 4.0L V8 Aurora, some pictures are there:

    Re: Transmission from Aurora

I am sorry, I did not mean to infer something... The Northstar engine V8 can only use the 4T80E, if your car has the northstar then only the 4T80e can work, the other tranny was for the v6 and will not interchange. Only the 3.71 group will work, again sorry for the misdirection.

    Re: Transmission from Aurora

Im coming back to this topic because now i am going to change my transmission.

    So once again:

    Box 4T80E from 1996 Aurora (4L 250 hp) will work in my 1998 STS (4.6 300 hp)?

I got information that this transmission will fit and also ratios are the same however for STS transmission is stronger than from Aurora and I will destroy it quickly. Is that true?
    Thanks
    Maciek
