My wife was driving my car yesterday and the service engine light started blinking. After a few minutes it stayed on. When she got home i noticed it was running really rough. I hooked the scanner up and got 0302 cylinder 2 misfire detected. Does anyone know if that is located in the front or back of the northstar? I'm going to start with the plugs first, if that fails i will chang the boots out and if that fails i'll change the coil pack. Does that sound like i'm taking the proper action? I would appreciate any help.

Re: 2000 STS 0302 code cylinder 2 misfire
I don't know if there is any difference since mine is a 96 STS but I had a misfire and I replaced plugs and wires, not with AC Delco mind you, and still didn't fix it so I then replaced one of the coil packs with a brand new one from Schucks that cost me $20. The car ran better than it ever did and still does with no problems and this was over a year ago. I do, however, think I will go with AC Delco at my next tune-up for plugs and wires just to see if there is any difference and because so many people here swear by them and say the car doesn't run the same without them.
your 96 is WAY diffrent than 2000 enignes.
As for the left and right. I beleive when refering to that you look at the engine from the flywheel which is on the tranny side i beleive. so then you will want the left side.
someone confirm? sub
either way i beleive the only diffrence between the coil casettes is the colour.. so other then that they SHOULD be swapable.
The coil cassettes and ICM's for the 2000+ engines are identical in electrical characteristics except the front (left) cassette is gray, the rear (right) cassette is black. Go back to Post#3 - that's the front (left) cassette with ICM.
bdubcaddy, Google "waste spark ignition" to find out what your system is. Quite different from the coil-on-plug of the 2000+
Thanks for all the help. I found a front coil pack at a junkyard a few towns over. I just put it in and took it for a test drive and it feels like it did the day i bought it. I'm so releaved that did the trick. Thanks again.
