    Charging issue 2000 STS

I went out this morning for a quick grocery run and my car turned over slow, but started. The grocery store is only two blocks away. When I got back out to my car it wouldnt start at all. It took about 20 minutes of it hooked up to my girlfriends cavalier to get it to start. On the way home my voltage read 14.9 steady. Does this voltage pretty much rule out the possibility of the alternator? Anything else I should look at before going to buy a $150 battery?

It should not take 20 min. to jump a car. If the battery was good it should jump right away. Take it out and have it test at Autozone.

You should make sure that your terminal connections are tight. Also, if your jumper cable connections are corroded it will transfer a very weak charge.

Well it was the battery. We have a company account with Batteries Plus so I purchased a battery from them. The only problem is they didn't have a 79 series battery in stock. They did however have an 80 series in stock which exceeds the CCA requirements for this vehicle. It however is not as long and therefore the vents do not fit perfectly, but I am going to modify them so that they fit correctly. Anyone foresee any problems?
