    Stuck in 2nd

1996 STS 185K miles, lost 4th gear, than lost 3rd gear, shifts smoothly into 2nd and stays there, have read many posts and all point to a soleniod, oddly there are no error codes, any additional thoughts will be appreciated.

I'd suspect the shift solenoids even with no DTC's.

    Re: Stuck in 2nd

It is irrelevant. Change both while you are in there. The kit comes with a hold down strap to prevent it from happening again. Tech Tips section might have a tutorial.

    Re: Stuck in 2nd

Not everything that fails puts up a code. Solenoids are a good example.

There are threads with good instructions but I no longer have my old bookmarks.

You have to add the bracket to hold the filter in place so change them both and put the bracket in or you will break the new ones.

Get an inch/pound torque wrench and use it on the valve body! Overtightening will cause the trans not to shift.

    Re: Stuck in 2nd

It's low, like 8 to 10 foot pounds, or 96-120 inch pounds I think...

Hopefully another search may find it. I don't know if it was put into tech tips.

Some libraries have access to Alldata or Mitchell's on demand.
