    95 Seville P056 Code

My SEL came on today and I pulled the code. It says P056, tranmission input speed sensor.
Have done a search on it, all I seem to find is it some part burried inside the trans.
What does this sensor do and what harm would I do by continuing to drive the car?
Would it be wise to check the wiring first to see if maybe I have a bad connection.
If so, when would the wiring harness and connector be for the transmission on this car?

That's funny my 1995 STS just gave me the same problem this morning. I posted the same questions before I read yours. I only get the check engine light and code when I use the cruise control. The sensor is fairly inexpensive however I'm hoping that it mounts from the outside of the tranmission not inside as you say you researched.

There are two speed sensors on the northstar engine trans.
. One is on the trans housing above the right output shaft. it is the vehical speed sensor and you should be able to ge to it by the right wheel well. The other is the input speed sensor is inside the trans which would require a trans drop and lots of labour. the part is cheap
i think the vehical speed sensor ( VSS code?) would be related to your speedometer. so if your speedometer has not been effected. you can count that sensor out!.
