I've narrowed down my no charging problem to a bad PCM after reading Mark C's informative post. I have one located. same serial # on both, however mine is a 95 Eldo "Y" vin and the other is from a 94 STS "9" vin. I thought the motors were tuned differently? is this computer going to work in my car? why would they give these computers the same serial # if they work with 2 different engines?
maybe I got the year wrong. someone posted that on EBAY there is a service that will program the PCM for the years 1996 and newer. has anyone ever changed the PCM or a 95 and not have to program the new vin # into it? if I do have to get it programmed, what does the dealer have to do? can I just bring in my new computer with my cars vin# or do they need the car? I know a guy that works for Caddy, maybe he can just run it through.

Re: will this PCM work in my Eldo?
Get to Wester's Garage and ask them. They're very big in the PCM/ECM programming business. Any other speculation is subject to research from someone in the full-time business of PCM work. Hearsay won't work when you're trying to run a Northstar and its vehicle.
