I would like to know how to change the shifter nob on a 99STS. I would like to replace the leather to wood.

There should be a metal pin that is shaped like a staple. It would be located in front of the shifter, under the squeeze part of it, and down a tad. See if that works. Maybe the 2000 isn't like my 1996. It should be kind of hard to find, and even harder to remove.

Some one posted a very good illustration just last week or so, showing
where the pin is, probably in this section.

    Re: Change shifter nob

I have posted the procedure in this thread. Although is initially intended for the ‘92-’97 Seville, ‘92-’02 Eldorado, Ur7X has posted the procedure for your car too (thanks man!).
I also remember posting in some other thread all possible shifter knobs since ’92, there are about 3 main variations: up to ‘95, from ‘95 to ’97 (’02 Eldorado) and post ’98 (Seville – leather/wood). Before ’98 there was no wood shifter knob option available (i.e. the ones with the horseshoe clip).

Cleaner you are right 98' and up you just put in neutral and pull straight up to replace or put back on you just press down until it pops into place

    Re: Change shifter nob

I recently changed my wood knob to one that better matched the wood on my console and dash on my '02 Seville and you really have to pull up HARD using both hands (at least on my car), and it made it easier to wear heavy leather gloves.
