Too much trans fluid? 4T80E

with filler cap off, car running in park. tap throttle cable and release instantly, ~1500 rpm, just a quick small shot of gas. It overflows..... a lot.. i may have put too much in?

Was checking it because it slips at high RPM. Am not sure if the engine is just weak at high RPM or if the trans is slipping, seems it might be slipping as i read about the fluid can bubble up if overfilled and cause slipping.

This is my 97 STS btw. Almost to my first oil change, 4800 km's !

There is a dipstick on the cap. Check it hot and idling. If it is overfilled, suck it down with a turkey baster.

Re: Too much trans fluid? 4T80E

took about 30 or more shots of that turkey baster..... half filled a 4.4 litre empty jug of oil and who knows how much on the ground and all over the place.... Mopped it all up andwent for a cruis.... my freaking lord i cant believe how drastic a change that is. Thats a 300 horse northstar again... pulls all the way to red. Feels like a lot more than my old engine til it hits about 6000 but the old one puled hard at 6k, this one seems to drop off around there but not too much.

Probaly that P0327 code.... i think its low voltage to knock sensor. Its the only code i have left and makes the engine light comeon. Only comes on if you go ver 4000 rpm. I imagine it effects timing or something. And nothing but 0% ethenol shell v-power for the last 4800 km...

Re: Too much trans fluid? 4T80E

ponyboyt, If you're using a good Euro 10W-30 oil and an AC Delco or WIX oil filter there's no earthly reason to change the oil at 4800 km (3,000 miles). Your engine will easily go 10,000 km (~6,000 miles) between changes. For your climate, change the oil and filter in April and October if you're worried.

For the transmission overfill, I think he's in western Europe and doesn't have a GM FSM.

One reason I always go through the "Your transmission is a dry sump unit and there will be NO fluid on the dipstick with the engine off........" in my 4T80E posts.

Re: Too much trans fluid? 4T80E

believe it or not, i filled it to the top of the warm line after running the car for 10 minutes, and filled it while it was running. Had filled it up cause ya.... the engine was out, along with the rad, and the cooler lines, so i knew some fluid was missing.

im doing the oil early cause this engine sat so long and had very dirty oil. I did a change at 200k, gona do this at 5000, and next one won't be til spring when she comes out of storage.

Im in canada, southern ontario.
