NEWBIE...anyone in Illinois help???

Is there anyone that could check out this car for us? I'll pay you...something.

We never owned a cadillac and this one is priced nice and said to be in good condition.

Any advise?

See the sticky at the top of the forum page on how to pull codes. When you take it for a test drive, put it in 2nd gear and put your foot to the floor. Do not release it until you hit at least 70. If the temperature gauge climbs, walk away.

Minimum 70. Drive it like you stole it. You can't hurt it. It will shift when it reaches redline, regardless of where you have the selector. You should be able to get 80 out of her before she shifts.

Thanks for the code information. If there are codes...should I be concerned of certain ones? Are some just common codes?

Glance through this and you'll see the codes P, C, B & U codes. There are many.

If you get codes copy them, look them up and post them and the definitions here.

If the gauge goes up under a load it means a bad head gasket most likely. Mine does not budge.

This is a list of repairs the dealship did. It also has a 1-owner car fax and he/she was a non-smoker. He took it in on trade last week.

I don't know what that is, but this car uses a 79 series battery. Lift the rear seat and be sure that there is a vent on each end of the battery and they are connected to a vent tube that dumps through the floor. If not, it will vent under the rear seat. That's the LAST place you want acid fumes.

EDIT: Oh wait. This is an Eldo. Not positive about the battery. IF it is not under the hood, then what I said is correct. If it is under the hood, disregard what I said.
