Ok,
Soooooooooooo, before the (Illinois) dealer called us this morning, I took the gas cap off the car and thoroughly cleaned with “electrical contact cleaner” in the springy-part of the cap, and then lube the gas cap gasket with a rubber lubricant.
Anyhow, then the Toyota Dealer (Illinois) called and said to take it to the local GM dealer and have them scan it to find out what codes it has. He also asked if we stopped for gas before the SES light on last night, and yes we did. The dealership was very nice/supportive.
Now...I get in the car to go to the local GM/Cadillac dealership in town, AND you guessed it, the SES light went off. Ugh!
The people at our dealership were very nice too. I gave them Continental Toyota’s number and told them to contact them for a Purchase Order number before doing any work. So the tech put the scan-tool to our cars computer and said the PO327 Knock Sensor Code was from 1,230 miles ago (history code) so she didn’t think that would code would activate the SES light. WOW, I didn't know the scanner would be that detailed.
The next code PO512 “Starter Request Performance” was from 140 miles ago (drive home last night) and was probably the one that activated the SES. But she, nor the other tech, ever heard of that code. Hmmmmmm.
She said the gas cap code or anything related to the fuel system was not in the history. She then cleared all codes with the scanner.
So I told her to call Continental Toyota, and inform them of the code(s) we did have and that we will dig deeper into it....just so it’s on record for all of us.
Kris and I bought a new gas cap ($22.00) just for peace of mind. I also scheduled a complete transmission flush and filter, and a radiator flush ....again, peace of mind on our part.
I’ll keep all my new fellow forum friends posted of what goes down over the next few weeks. Sorry for all the “babble”.....
Thanks for all the great advise.
And now we are going to put some miles on this thing, talk to you soon!!
Thanks
