Today just discovered the heat doesn't blow hot. Took it to firestone, they say the Thermostat and Blend doors aren't opening, small leak in radiator and there is a coolant leak in the reservoir. I'm replacing the thermostat and desperately looking for a used reservoir to avoid paying a grip at the stealership. Any ideas on how to get the blend doors to open and get some heat? No overheating happening, the usual check coolant light came came on after leaving firestone, reservoir is low. Can I put something in to seal the leak? |

If the thermostat was not opening you should have been overheating - maybe it was stuck open? Did the car operate at normal temp? As for the reservoir (a.k.a. the surge tank) try junkyards ( www.car-part.com is a good locator tool). Some people here have also fixed their tank leaks using JB Weld for plastic but it usually seems to be only a temporary fix. They had late (2000+) Seville tanks for $69, shipped, a month ago.
If your temp gauge was sitting at about 12:00, 1/8" either way, your thermostat is perfectly fine. It begins opening at 188 and is fully open at 206. The engine should always run at about 200+, but if the entire A/C system is OFF, temp will go to 224 in traffic, the fans will go to slow, and the temp will come back down to 212. Fans run in slow any time an A/C function is commanded, and they run on engine temp control without A/C commanded.
Either the temp blend door(s) are not working or the heater core's plugged.
Read the entire sticky at the top of this Seville Forum main page "How to pull codes". Get your DTC's from the car's built-in system, go back to the link to find out what the (if any) P,B,C, and U codes mean. |
