Angry Brake lights are always on!

Remove this ad
Hi Guys,

Yesterday I was in my mechanics shop, asking him to solve my problem with AC, he opened the carpet in driver side, and worked there for a while playing with blend doors and the wires and cables there... And then I returned home.. after afew hours when I came out of home I realized the brake lights are on!!!! (The car was not working and all the other lights were off). It seems that brake pedal is pushed! I turned the car on, play with the brakes, and pushed the brake all the way up by my hand to make sure it is not half down, but brake lights (and that narrow and long tail light) are still on when the car is working or not! Although there is warning in dashbord saying that service of lights is suggested... Which is totally new...I disconnected the battery until Monday morning that will go to mechanic to see what he has done with my car! Now I just want to have a glue about the problem to make sure that mechanic will not play with me with some stupid reasonings....What is the problem you think?

Just aside. 10 days ago when I parked on a hill I had pushed the parking brake too firmly, and for realising it I pushed the brakes too much. For one day after it my brake pedal was harsh, and some times I needed to pull the brake pedal up a bit with my toe to realise it completely. This problem was solved itself and the brake returned to its usual situation again, and I never had the problem again. Can be any relationship between current problem and that problem.

Re: Brake lights are always on!

First thing to do is pull the codes, but pulling battery power will clear them. When you put battery power back and get that message, then pull them. I'd also check the brake light switch at the top of the pedal.

Thanks for prompt reply, where is this brake light switch exactlly? and how does it looks like. Probably this is my problem, because the mechanic left some cables disconnected saying that because you are returning Monday for this AC job I am not putting the carpet and connections back... !!

Re: Brake lights are always on!

The switch is at the top of the brake pedal arm.
