In need of help!!

Remove this ad
Hello I am new to this forum and I own a 1998 Cadiilac Seville STS. I need help with getting my dash off. I have already use the seach function with no results to help. I am trying to get the defroster vents off but the seem to be screwed on or something. I think that if I get this off I will be able to get the rest of the dash off. I have taken all screws in the front of the dash including the ones in the vent off. I just need to get this vent off. How can I get this off It doesn't just pry off.

Just my opinion: I think that there should be a more complete DIY section added to this forum (If I have missed it I apologize) so that the same questions aren't asked unless absolutely necassary. The directions in the DIY section also need to be fact not just what someone did. That what confuses people. I am glad I found this forum, I just expected to find a wealth of info. I think its available in the members it's just not posted.

Re: In need of help!!

There is a Tech Tips forum, but I don't recall seeing this in there. Don't take my word for it. Check anyway. The best investment you'll ever make is a FSM by Helm Inc. (NOT Chiltons or Haynes) or a subscription to alldatadiy.com.

Re: In need of help!!

Why are you trying to take the dash off?

There is a wealth of information here... just maybe not on the particular subject that you're dealing with.

Re: In need of help!!

The vents slide out. They are held in by spring tabs on the top and bottom. Slide something thin (about the thickness of a credit card) in the top and bottm of the vent to release the tabs and pull the vent out. We'll get right to work on having the answer to every question completely indexed for every model of car cross referenced by color, options and the first letter of the owner's last name, and all reviewed and verified by Certified Cadillac Master Sensei Technician Wizards.

Re: In need of help!!

Actually, all his or anyone's information is already in CF, catalogued under different part or engine or system headings. Every sort of fix, repair, workaround, failure is in here. BUT, the Forums are ongoing, so it takes a bit of time and sleuthing to find articles.

One main problem is that practically no one reads the Forum hints and rules, the info in Cadillac Technical Archives, or posts their "Hello, my name is Joe !" down in Member Introductions.

This Forum format is sort of like Webster's Unabridged: It's all in here, it just takes time and work to find it. My take on the layout ???? It's not instant gratification.

Re: In need of help!!

I search this forum for about a week looking for what I needed without success but, I did figure it out. The dashpad actually slides out while the defroster vents are held down by bolts. I am just trying to figure out how to get the ignition out so that the rest of the dash will come out. I am going to do more searching though.
