Remove the center console cover latch and then the fold-out cup holder. Carefully lift the rear corners of the wood piece and disconnect the traction switch (?) and seat heater buttons.

But first remove the shift knob. Put it in neutral and pull straight up.

The widget with 2 screws that the console bin cover latches to - the striker plate.

Yeah - don't bash your face with the shift knob - it's tight - spring clip.

The shift knob can stay on...the trim will fit around it. I also was able to remove the trim without bothering the cup holder. Yes, the clips hold pretty good so it may take some effort to pop them loose (dried Coke in there probably doesn't help, either).

Re: How to remove center wood grain peice by shifter to replace light bulbs

Are we talking about the same part? No way is the shift gate slot going to fit over the shift knob. I thought he was talking about the panel that the shifter is sticking up through.
