'94 Eldorado Engine wont start, can you help?

Hey everyone,
So I am only 18, I inherited my '94 Eldorado about a year ago, and I know nothing about cars, let alone Caddilacs. No one that I know knows hardly anything about cars, other wise I wouldn't bother you guys with my probably stupid questions. First off let me start by saying, my Eldorado is falling apart.
FIRST) My engine wont start- enough said. The dash, and lights turn on, I can roll down my windows, but it wont start, when I turn the key the engine clicks and everything stops working until I release the key, like it is trying to start. Everyone I talk to says that its the starter. What will I have to do to fix this without spending a fortune, hahaha don't make me laugh... wanna buy a fixer upper? haha.
SECONDLY) My trunk wont close. It was having troubles for about 3 months, where at times the electric latch wouldn't raise, I had to jiggle the wires and mess with it until it worked. Then we had a really bad snow storm, and we had to open my trunk (I was trying to avoid opening it because it was getting worse every time) to get my spare tire, and it never closed again. I think maybe snow leaked in and short circuited the electric latch. Any ideas or tips?
There are tons of other problems with this car, and it is for sure NOT a good first car, but it's just too sexy to get rid of, and I don't have money to buy a different car that is more efficient.
ANYWAYS, if you have any tips for a girl with horrible car luck please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it before I just go running to a mechanic, believing everything he says, and forking over my college savings so that I can get to work (trust me, with my hours the bus is not an option either, unfortunately)... I know cry me a river right?

Thank you so much for reading my ramblings,
Christina

The battery is dead. I'll bet when you turn the key the headlights go real dim.

Try pressing on the switch to draw the latch down. If it works unplug it and use it like a regular non electric trunk.
