So I ran the on board diagnostic. I found the codes and replaced a Oxygen Sensor. That didnt help. I then performed a GM OBDII Driving Cycle. Now I am not getting any codes other than history. The car still runs like its going to blow up but not all the time. I am getting intermittent loud noise in the exhaust system accompanied by loss of power and also power take off. I am not a mechanic and, a girl at that so tell me something I can understand.
Does the catalytic converter cause this type of problem? Any suggestions? |

How many miles are on your Eldo? Do you know when the last time the spark plugs and wires were all replaced? If so were AC Delco plugs and wires used or an aftermarket brand?

I also did the screw driver trick to the fuel injectors and they all tested good. I just bought the car and have driven it about 1000 miles. So I don't really know any history other than it was owned by a Cadillac Mechanic. I finally gave up and took it to the garage and they are having trouble also. Now it wont start. Replacing the starter relay sensor. Now its giving a code of crank sensor. That has been ordered. They also think the catalytic converter may be plugged. Its like S--t hit the fan. Any other suggestions? |

What Eldorado model (ESC, ETC, Eldorado) ?? What codes did you initially find ?? No such thing as a starter relay sensor. The CKP system (CranKshaft Position sensor) will set codes like P0335/6 and P0385/6. What was the code that made you replace an oxygen sensor ?? (O2 sensors in these cars are very reliable, life-wise - an O2 sensor code usually points to a vacuum leak or fuel delivery problem, and the code itself is the key.) Catalytic converters don't just get plugged up. Something is fishy here............ |

If it was me, given you've got the P0300 code, I'd replace the spark plugs and wires, if its got more than 100,000 miles on it. I had a LOT of rough issues at around 110,000 miles and the new plugs and wires eliminated all of it.
Good luck. |

OK here are the initial codes PCM P0151, P0742, IPC B1552,B1983,B2750,B1558, B1983, B1327NO ACM, NO SBM, NO TCS ALSO P0300. Most of these are history codes the current ones p0151,p0742,p0300. The Eldorado model is ESC, mileage is 111.000. I am serious when I say it sounds like it is going to blow up. Then it will go along just fine for a minute. Then it looses power gets real noisy, runs rough, and might surge and take off. I replaced the oxygen sensor after getting the code P0151. Of course now the mechanics have it and trying to diagnosis, Their machine is showing more codes. Now it wont start without jumping and they are recommending that it is the starter relay. It must be a legit part because it has been ordered and will be here today. The oxygen sensor did not make any difference so I will assume it did not need to be replaced. Process of elimination right? Keep the advice coming it gives me something to think about. Thanks ! |

I still think spark plugs should be changed, if P0300 is current, and you don't know when they've been changed. One of them could be arcing, one of mine had a crack, and my car made an exploding sound when I'd gun it. AC Delco's are about $7-$8 from Rockauto.com i think. Don't let them use any other brand of spark plugs. |

P0742 - TCC System Stuck On. With the TCC stuck on, it is like trying to stop a standard transmission without stepping on the clutch. It will kill the engine.

I did tell the mechanic to change all spark plugs. He still can not get it to start without jumping. It is running better after changing the cam shaft positioning sensor. However every auto dealer indicated that it only has one not two sensors. They do have two different sensors available for that car. Thanks! |

The TCC solenoid is in the transmission side cover. The drivetrain needs to be removed to get at it, but it can be done by lowering the cradle a bit on the drivers side I believe. |

The intake plenum connector is at #2 in the manifold diagram.
