Tires that leak at rim? 00 SLS Vogues

Remove this ad
I've got vogue rios on my 00 SLS, and recently after mounting new potenzas, a couple of the tires are losing air from what appears to be the seal between the rim and tire. With wheels that are almost 10 yrs old, I'll admit, some of the chrome is starting to go in different places. Read over a few threads before posting and this seems to be a fairly minor problem to correct with the black adhesive that most tire shops have, but thought I'd post here for validation.

Thanks!

Yup... the black adhesive stuff works pretty good with that. It's best to have them completely dismount the tire and wire-wheel the seating surface to make sure that it's good and clean. Then after they remount the tire with the adhesive you should have them balance it. The problem with the black adhesive stuff, is when you go and buy new tires after that's been done, you need to have them clean it off and reapply (or sometimes just reapplying works) otherwise it could leak again.

I've even used the tire slime (mounting compound) in place of the adhesive with good results.

Been there. Just like Krashed said. Wire wheel and then black sealant. I've got one leaking now, but am waiting for new tires to fix it.
