2 more problems/questions, one about remote, one about tire caps

The remote keyfob that came with my car does not work. I took it to a dealer to have it tested, and it needs to be replaced. What is the cheapest/best way to go about replacing that (where should I order it from, can I program it myself? etc..)?

The cap on one of my tires will not come off so I can't check pressure. I took it to Discount Tire and the dealership who both told me it needs to be cracked and replaced. Discount Tire told me this is a common problem with Cadillacs and their chrome caps. Is there another way I can try and get the cap off without shelling out 80 bucks?

Thank you for your help everybody!

Order your fob off ebay. Dealer only for programming.

I've never had an issue with my valve stem caps, are you sure they're OEM? I know some fancy aftermarket chrome caps have a locking mechanism built in so people cant steal them.

I am pretty sure they are OEM, they come off easily on my other tires.

Wrap a rag around the valve stem and give the cap/threads a squirt of PB Blaster (penetrant) and let it sit for an hour or so.

A pair of pliers should get it off.

I've had that issue before. The shop said they can literally "seize" onto the valve stem and can be damn near impossible to get off. I don't know how much of that is just an attempt to sell a tire, but in the last case I had the car wasn't in for tires at all. The dealer was just doing a courtesy air check after having other work done.

    Try Sub's advice on penetrant.

If you are careful with 2 pair of slip-joint pliers you can grab the part of the valve stem just at the brass threaded portion - there's some of that brass barrel down in the rubber - and grab the cap - and carefully twist so as not to stress the valve stem rubber.

    Another question:

Is buying a blank vat ignition key off ebay a good idea? I need a spare key as well and am looking to save money of course.

Yeah I brought two off of Ebay and they work perfectly. If programming is the same for your Eldo as it was for my STS then it is definetely worth it. Had the keys cut at my local hardware store for $1 and programming the keys takes every bit of 20 secs. Dont waste your money at the stealership for something you can get for less than $10.
